Warding Off Ghosts

Warding off ghosts has been something people from way back in ancient times up until today, like to do.  They're scared, they're superstitious and they just do not want to take any chances of evil spirits haunting and harassing them.

Understandable, to say the least.

This is one of the motivating reasons for Halloween's birthing.  Dressing up in 'ugly' costumes, to scare ghosts away was a real remedy belief for folks.

Others created architecture, constructing 'sharp' points on roofs so that ghosts cannot land and bring trouble to the inhabitants and/or worshipers.  Still others place mirrors above the front doors of their homes so that when evil spirits see themselves they are frightened and so go away.

After a funeral, before entering ones' own home, some people believe they need to jump over fire so that the spirits of the departed ones would not follow them home and make trouble; the spirits being afraid of fire and thus a deterrent.

Ghosts of departed loved ones are actually evil spirits - demons - deceitfully masquerading as said loved one, thus messing with them, much to Satan's glee.

As believers in Jesus Christ we are told to,

"Submit yourselves, then, to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (James 4:7 NIV).

John assures us,

"You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world" (1 John 4:4 NIV).

This assurance we children of God can have in the name of Jesus Christ.  Call out, "Jesus!" in times of trouble from the evil one and his minions.  As James tells us, submit to God and resist the devil.  This is our part.  When we do these, then the devil flees.

It may seem somewhat trite and simplistic.  However, remember

"The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe" (Proverbs 18:10 NIV).

Declare yourself to be a child of God and in the name of Jesus, and in His blood there is power, recourse and strength to resist the devil and the evil ones.  Allow the Holy Spirit indwelling us to aid us too.  He is greater because He is God.  We have the victory because Jesus triumphed over sin, death and hell, and His enemy Satan.

In Christ, we have the victory and do not need to dress up in scary costumes, build fires, add sharp architecture or hang mirrors or any other such practices to ward off ghosts.

Praise the Lord all you followers of Jesus Christ!  In Him we have the safety and victory.  Trust Him.
