Lord's Day Devotion - Songs of Joy and Laughter

Around the throne of God in Heaven, many children of God sing.  They sin for joy, their mouths being filled with laughter, not becasue of an abundance of wine but because,

"...the Lord has done great things for them..." (Psalm 126:1-3 NIV).

Therefore, they are filled with joy.

Can you imagine it dear brother and sister-in-Christ?  Place yourself there in the Heavenly throne room among the throng and multitude of saints who have been saved by grace.

Now think of yourself here on earth around the Lord's Table, this Lord's Day, gathered together with other children of God to remember our Lord Jesus in His death.

Remember all the "great things" He has done for you through His death and resurrection.  Then, with joy and gladness of heart, partake of the broken bread and drink of that cup of wine and how His sorrow, brought, and still brings, us joy.

Rejoice and sing songs of joy, as if doves let loose from captivity.  Some day soon, and very soon, we too will be gathered round that throne in Heaven to sing our great Redeemer's song of praise.

Can you hear it?  That,

"roar of a great multitude in Heaven" (Revelation 19:1 NIV)?

Do you know what they are shouting?  It's

"Salvation and glory and power belong to our God...Hallelujuh!  For our Lord God Almighty reigns.  Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory..." (Revelation 19:1, 3, 8 and 9 NIV).

This is at the marriage of the Lamb and we - the Church - are His bride.  The bride whom He purchased with His blood from every tribe, language, people and nation (Revelation 5:9-10).  Indeed, our Lord has done great things for us.

Sing, Christian, sing!  Gather round and sing with joy and laughter, songs and new songs of praise, for worthy is Lamb.
